Lemmings, the Whole Lot of Them!

These are the Senators who turned away from the American people and stuck their heads in the sand by voting against the President's Jobs Bill. If you see your senator(s) on the list, please consider voting him or her out of office in the next possible election, since it is obvious they do not have the interests of American citizens in mind.

In the meantime, Republicans in the House felt it was the most important thing they could do for their constituents to introduce the barbaric "Protect" Life Act, legislation that is not needed because abortion is already banned from any connection to Federal funding. This bill, if allowed to come to completion, could deny life-saving measures to be taken for women, so how is it protecting life?

Do our legislators feel these types of issues are more important and more desired by the American public than things like jobs? Of course not - I was just being facetious! Their only goal is to defeat the sitting President, no matter how much damage it causes the nation!

"Maybe It's You"

Jon Stewart gave a fantastic little vinette the other day. You can see it here, courtesy of the Huffington Post - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/27/jon-stewart-mocks-indecisive-gop-candidates-look-in-the-mirror_n_982836.html He made some really excellent points on the bobble-headed conflicting Republican views, such as staunch right-to-lifers cheering on the death penalty. One of my favorite points Stewart made was talking about the Republicans as "the child of poor immigrants who will build a fence to keep them out." Magnificent talking points - funny, but quite serious, too. Everyone (with half a brain) needs to watch this!

It's been more than twenty-four hours now, and gee, nothing terrible or earth-shattering has happened. Let's celebrate, everyone! Our military has finally turned the corner into the 21st century!

Things That Just Make Sense

Real job creation means spending some money!
Corporations are NOT "people" - they are legal entities.
Lowering the tax obligations of corporations does NOT create jobs - otherwise, we would have seen it already!
The wealthiest people in this country are not paying their fair share in taxes, and they should be doing so - in fact, some have come forward asking to do so!
We should have a single-payer health care system. Works for England, Canada and France, it ought to work for us, too.
What is derogatorily referred to as "Obama-care" little resembles what the President originally intended. Much of what is in it came out of compromises to appease the Tea-Party Republicans.
Religion and religious beliefs should have nothing to do with any legislation put forth in this country. Not everyone believes the same as those in power. Some are agnostic, some are evangelical, some are non-evangelical Christians, some are Jewish, some are Muslim, some are Athiest. That is what this country was based on two-hundred-thirty-five years ago - a country where freedom of religious beliefs matters.
If the non-progress-oriented Republican party in Congress would stop needing constant compromises from the Democratic party (without compromising on their end most of the time), this administration would have been able to get so much more done!
We need some really big infrastructure projects - and lo and behold! we have some - bridges, roads, electrical systems, etc.!
Fox News just needs to be gone!
Don't the Republican Presidential candidates have (or use) fact-checkers?
Ohio needs to say NO to Issue 2!
Congress needs to pass The American Jobs Act immediately - without bickering or back-biting like what went on during the unnecessary debt ceiling debate (that should have just been passed - no compromises, no temper tantrums)!

This blog

will be a place for progressive opinions. I'm hoping to publish something pertinent to the current absurd state of affairs in our republic at least every few days. The name of the blog - and the address attached - are an indication that we need to fix things, and fix them fast. Not in the ludicrous ways the tea-partiers advocate, but in common sense, fact-based, workable solutions. If you don't agree, I'm sorry, for you and the country. If you do, let's kick this Congress into real action!
